If you need help accessing the Google Meet link or have questions regarding commons, please reach out to us at: Seneschal@brokenbridge.eastkingdom.org
The chapter president will also be hosting virtual office hours on September 20th from 8 – 10 PM EST. Our office hours are an opportunity for members to have more opportunities to discuss SCA business outside of monthly meetings or ask questions regarding the workings of the SCA.
These office hours are virtual and can be accessed by Google Meet:
Seneschal – Coronation has happened and we have new royalty. Reminded everyone that Barleycorn was happening soon.
A&S Minister – Is going to look to have a class for the next commons.
Westminster – Projects have been on Pause but restarting on them in Q4.
Deck the Halls of Valhalla – Will be online and we have two individuals that might run the event. We have some ideas of new activities that we will talk further about. Date to be picked soon.
Flyers – Arnora made flyers for Fight Practice. She would like to be reimbursed for the expense. It was approved at the meeting unanimously.
Order of the Carrot – Arnora is working with the Viceregents about this unofficial order.
Marine Park – We really liked Marine Park and they have a community center. We are looking into ways we can rent it and see if we can do an in person event there next spring.
New Demos/Attending alternative events – Catelin brought up that we should look into new demos or alternative events to attend and try to advertise ourselves at. We are going to talk about making a list for the Seneschal to call cold and see if we can join them.
Event for the Kingdom of Acre – We had a special guest from the Kingdom of Acre. They are having an event October 2nd called “The Masque of the Red Death Ball” It’s $20 to attend and you can register at email@example.com
Next commons will be September 26th, and it will be fully virtual.

The Canton of Broken Bridge wishes to make the following known:
We recognize that the Society of Creative Anachronism is many things, including a game and a hobby. On one hand, it can not exist without volunteers donating their time and efforts. On the other hand, overcommitting and burnout are not healthy for our members nor to the long term health of our society.
The unofficial Order of the Carrot was created to recognize and celebrate people who were able to say they have overcommitted. This is for those who were able to say “No, I can not complete these responsibilities.” Anyone who wants to join the order may do so on their own initiative.
The Carrot is about recognizing our own limitations and normalizing the practice of asking for help or setting boundaries to protect your wellbeing. Do not nominate other people for the Order without their enthusiastic consent, or present it to someone to shame them for getting overcommitted or not completing something. The Carrot should never be used as a stick.
You can also join us on Facebook at The Order of The Carrot group page for the latest news and information regarding the order.
As an unofficial award, the Order of the Carrot is not registered with the Society’s College of Arms and does not confer rank within the East Kingdom’s Order of Precedence.
We present the favor in heraldic description: Vert, a bunny rabbit statant affronty argent charged on the paw with a carrot gules
It is our deepest desire that this order goes beyond our chapter. Please feel free to make your own favors to distribute to those deserving of a carrot, and not a stick, for being able to recognize their own limits and let others take on volunteering opportunities.
To the populace we provide a PDF file containing the stencil design for the favor. You can simply download the file and print it off to use for the creation of the favor.
I have exciting news to share with you all. The Canton of Brokebridge has been invited to hold a virtual demo for the Twitch show, Beyond Screens. Beyond Screens is a show produced by the group Indiecade that features work that pushes the boundaries of, or comes entirely off the screen.
We are thrilled to be holding a demo with Beyond Screens to showcase the SCA and our canton to a wider audience. We are featuring martial activities, A&S demonstrations, and bardic performances to showcase how the SCA comes out and plays!
We invite you all to watch on June 16th starting at 3pm Eastern to watch!
I hope this message finds you well, especially after the sky has decided to gift us with so much snow!
It does not feel like winter unless we are all digging ourselves out. I write to you all today on an important matter that needs the collective input of the residents of Brokenbridge. I have been consulting with the heralds of Ostgradr and they have brought to my attention that our fair canton does not have a badge of our own!
We have our arms, the Bugs and Bunny of Brokenbridge, but those are only supposed to be used for our official events, to mark our location at events held by other groups or worn by the seneschal. While this is nice, I would love to have something that all members of Brokenbridge can use. Something that could be a belt favor, trinket or even used on your own social media page. To that end, we propose this badge, “(fieldless) a rabbit rampant vert.”
I don’t want to make this decision in a bubble. If you have ideas or thoughts, or even want to submit a design for the populace to debate on, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will have our Commons meeting on February 21st, 2020 and will make this an official discussion point at that meeting.
